April 27th

April 27th 2009This month has definitely made the entire Sea Leveler crew earn the charter boat award for making it happen (if their was such a award). We have had some great trips and every trip we have caught some nice fish but not many of them came easy. The dolphin bite has been good one day and none existent the next. The bottom fishing has my head spinning, one day you get a good bite in shallow water the next day no bite. After that go even shallower and later that same day you need to be deeper than 200ft to get a bite. When you do find them they are nice fish. Snapper 10 to 20 lbs and the grouper are 20 plus. WHAT IS GOING ON? The live bait trolling has been very good on most days and the fish have been close to home. We are fishing only a few miles from Cocoa Beach and doing very well on kings and the occasional cobia to spice things up. The big jacks have shown up and they are awesome fighters along with some barracuda for fun. The shark fishing has yet to really hit full stride. On our last outing we caught 2 sharp nose sharks and two bonnet head sharks. The sharp nose and bonnet heads are the smaller sharks we catch, usually 3ft or less and not weighing more than 15 lbs. We did have 3 shots at larger sharks that same night but they didn’t want to stay hooked. I do believe the fishing will get more consistent as soon as the weather does. I suggest if you are planning a trip in the next week or so to go the full day. Like I said we have had great catches on every trip it just takes a little more looking around than it normally does. Call me if you are wanting to go shark fishing because it is going to break loose any time now and sometimes it takes a while to get a fishing report in. I will let you know exactly what we caught on our most recent trip. Call us and give us a chance to show you why Sea Leveler is the charter boat you want to take your family fishing on.
